FREQUENCIES AT LUMIERE DURHAM LIGHT FESTIVAL, United Kingdom

I took part in the Lumiere Durham Light Festival with project called Frequencies. This monumental project was generated onto the banks of River Wear that runs through the city center. The River Wear was a pivotal Durham landmark. I created an absorbing contrast to the natural beauty of the river and its surroundings with around 500 lightsources to create large panoramic installation, We composed with sound engineer Heikki Savolainen unique ambient soundscape that was using only frequencies that we dont normally hear and as contrast i played piano to this. Soundscape was using only sounds of real bats that were brought down to hearable levels and piano. Delight in the riverside landscape transformed into a dreamlike wonderland full of slowness, meditation and peace.

Project was one on the main projects in the festival and it covered around 500m wide area. It was my first larger project also in United Kingdom and it was a great pleasure to work with the superb team of Artichoke and curator Helen Marriage
