Savage Beauty 2020

European capitol of culture

KARI KOLA'S ARTWORK SAVAGE BEAUTY TURNS CONNEMARA MOUNTAINS EMERALD AND BLUE.

For the European Capitol of Culture Galway 2020, Finnish Light Artist Kari Kola and his team turn their attention to the extraordinary beauty of mountains next to the Lough Nafooey. Kari created the largest illuminated artworks up to date, using the extraordinary beauty of the Connemara mountains as the perfect backdrop. In a massive 5,000,000m2 lighted surface illumination, I made a light roof over the whole valley and i used green and blue to make one big art piece next to the Lough Nafooey.  This was up to opening date the largest Light art project ever created on the planet.

Project was Executed with local shepards who are living in the valley and they are the experts of the land and conditions there. For the setup we used helicopters, boats and lots of handwork.

Savage Beauty was the main project for European Capital of Culture Galway2020 in cooperation with Artichoke(UK)
