In my work, I have been interested in historically significant places, as they contain our common shared history as humanity. Cultural and historical places are also under threat. They are threatened by climate change and uncontrolled tourism growth, but they are also destroyed by wars and conflicts. What will be left of us as a human race if we let our own history disappear?
This is why working with UNESCO over the years has been personally important to me. Through my own work, I can shed new light on these invaluable places and spark a discussion about their protection, appreciation and preservation.
Lighting UNESCO heritage sites is also technically challenging and requires a special sensitivity to people, place, built environment and culture. All of these things together form a whole that makes my work meaningful and inspiring.

International Day of light
In 2018, UNESCO declared the International Day of Light for the first time and I had the honor of creating a light installation for UNESCO's headquarters in Paris.
The International Day of Light will provide an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of the central role that light plays in the lives of the citizens of the world in areas of science, culture and art, education, sustainable development, and fields as diverse as medicine, communications and energy.
The themes of the artwork were light and darkness, day and night, the sun and the moon.
I was honored that I was invited to take part in the first International Day of Light Flagship Event and bring light art as one part of this thematic day. I was delighted about the opportunity to be one of the speakers at this Flagship Event, as well.

Opening ceremony of the international year of light, Paris, france Unesco hq
”Light Is Here”, my installation for the opening ceremony of the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies is the top point of my career so far. The Opening Ceremony was attended by more than 1500 people, including diplomats, scientists, CEOs and leaders of the industry from around the globe.
The installation presents with light in multiple ways, creating a visually enchanting appearance for the Unesco Fontenoy building. Living in the North and the unique nature here has always affected my artistic work. That is why also ”Light Is Here” reflects the most powerful elements of natural light: the Aurora Borealis and the sunrise.
I used more than 200 hi-power LEDs, 12 big video projectors (video content by Nuno Maya) and hazers. I also composed the artwork soundscape.
